Community Memory: Discussion List on the History of Cyberspace ______________________________________________________________________
Dear list-members, I have some good news for everyone.
It turns out that St. Johns, the univeristy which hosts Community Memory, archived CYHIST, and made it searchable in many useful ways. This, apparently, is part of the L-Soft deal for users of their list software, of which St. John's is one big user. Anyway, the Web interface is quite good, with a good variety of search options (author, subject, keyword), and it can thread messages, and so on, by month, week, etc.
I urge you to go play with it, and let me know via personal mail (to davidsol@panix.com) what you think of it. It can be accessed here:
http://maelstrom.stjohns.edu/CGI/wa?S1=cyhist
One caveat-- the list was originally on another listserv from June 4, 1996 to July 8, 1996. I have to figure out how to get those posts into the system, so until they are, the first month of the list will not come up on the search queries. Those posts, however, appear in the plain-text archives on that page.
I have also placed a link to the search enigne on the Community Memory home page (http://memex.org/community-memory.html)
One goal of this list was always to make our discussion available to the Net community, especially those who wonder "where did e-mail come from?" or whatever... Now it is a bit easier for them to do so.
best,
