Greetings. My name is David Plotnikoff. I'm the digital culture columnist for the San Jose Mercury News in San Jose, California.
I'm hopeful that someone on the group can give me some background on early online service gateways to the Net. Prodigy, CompuServe and AOL historical timelines I have. What I need is someone who can establish with some authority precisely when GEnie, Delphi and other early services established their first e-mail gateways, FTP gateways and/or began picking up Usenet feeds.
Additionally, I'd appreciate hearing anecdotal recollections of what daily life was like on those services prior to January 1993. Anyone who can recall the primordial America Online service should also consider dropping me a note.
Many thanks in advance for the assistance.
