Thanks Eric for some pretty impressive research! What i've found out this far by talking to various people at the mentioned searchsites is this:
Jumpstation was the first major site to host a searchengine, i.e a searchable index of HTML-documents on the Internet. However, Brian Pinkerton and the his crew put up the first full-text searchengine when they launched Webcrawler on April 20, 1994. http://webcrawler.com/WebCrawler/Facts/WCStory.html Regarding the order of the others following Webcrawler (Opentext, Lycos and so on), i'll have to get back to you on that one. Funny how one never is fully aware that history is being made, even if you're there and in the midst of it all...
