I bought the very first HP RPN calculator when it came out for $395 in 1970 or 1971.
I never saw it advertised for any lower
price.
Even at $395 it was quite a breakthrough at the time and there were a lot of hard feelings in our UCR physics class between the students that could afford the calculator and those who couldn't.
HP did have some kind of time payment
plan for that first calculator, but I don't remember if it was only available to students.
