Additional information on sixth-edition Unix is available in this book:

Lions' Commentary on Unix : With Source Code by John Lions

Published by Peer to Peer Communications Publication date: July 1,1996
Dimensions (in inches): 10.96 x 8.37 x .54 ISBN: 1573980137

http://www.peer-to-peer.com/catalog/history/lions.htm http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN%3D1573980137

This book (an underground classic) contains the source code and Lions' cogent discussion.

Also, Bob Supnik of Digital Equipment Corporation has written emulators for the PDP-11 (as well as a number of other vintage computers), and has negotiated hobbyist licenses for 5th, 6th, and 7th edition Unix among others. See:

ftp://ftp.digital.com/pub/DEC/sim/README

for pointers to the emulators (in C source code for Unix and Windows) and operating system disk images or:

http://www.digital.com/info/DTJN0/

for an article in the Digital Technical Journal by Bob and Max Burnet on "Preservation of Historical Computer Systems".

And of course there's the PDP Unix Preservation Society at:
