Another 1980's computer that ought to be saved is the Data General MV/8000.
Edison DeCastro (DG's head at the time) donated one to Worcester Polytechnic Institute (and maybe other schools) at the time that Tracy Kidder's Soul of a New Machine came out in hardcover - appx. January 1982 (or 1983?)
It became the freshman programming machine, replacing the Univac Punch cards. I was working in the work/study program, helping other students with programs and doing backups, and paper changes.
I don't know what happened to that machine either. It was being replaced with IBM PC's, which were arriving on campus as I graduated in May 1984!
PS: Is Data General still even around?
