One of the best places to get some "quick and dirty" information of this sort is the computer history time line that was published in the October 1996 issue of the IEEE journal "Computer".
It is a "time-line" that runs across the lower portion of each page in the issue - it is not complete, but nothing of this type can be! It is, however, well done and can easily be found in any library that has engineering items or by contacting almost anyone who might belong to the IEEE Computer Society - ("Computer" is the house journal that every member gets).
There are a couple of other "time-line" lists that Frank's student might find useful and if he write to me off line (ie email to me at my private address - not on the list server) I can put you in touch with them.
