Does anyone have access to a working 7-track IBM -compatible tape drive of 60s vintage? Other "legacy" drives? We're looking for them to transfer historic software to something newer before it deteriorates completely. We're also trying to keep track of little-known emulators out there for old machines; there seem to be a number which haven't made it to emulator sites.
We'll list any information we can find on our Web site (webhistory.org) to try and connect people with compatible resources to each other. Our archiving goal started with Web-related software, but has expanded to general software preservation. The key components are transferring data from obsolete media (hence need for old drives), preserving it (solved, through us and Internet Archive), and being able to run it now and in the future (hence need for emulators).
Thanks,
Marc Weber
