416 OAKDALE
My house is a 1910, white, two-story Victorian. The age of the house proves that though it is mine, it will never be only mine. The memories of past inhabitants linger, and the house is certain to have more owners after my time here is finished.
The house is comprised of fifteen rooms (including bathrooms), each with:
- 10 foot ceilings
- Oak Woodwork, some of it painted, some of it not
The floors on all of the first downstairs rooms are either hardwood oak or ceramic tile with the exception of the beige carpeted master bedroom. The floors in all of the upstairs rooms including the staircase are covered in indigo blue, wall to wall carpet with the exception of the bathroom.
All of the house’s windows are long and narrow with wide windowsills and trim. The three bathrooms have ceramic tile floors and are all full baths with:
- a sink (or two),
- a bathtub or shower, and
- a toilet in each.
The mention of fifteen rooms can be misleading in that this house is not a miniature mansion, but a large, rambling, old house, very much lived in by our family of five, our relatives, and our friends. Though the house has been updated over the years with modern electric and plumbing, the large rooms, oak woodwork, built-in cabinets, and window sizes are staples of its character. I'll take you on a quick walk-thru, and by clicking on various links you can:
- learn about the EVOLUTION of different rooms,
- learn the RESULT of our changes to these rooms, and
- discover secrets and/or a STORY or two involving the rooms.
Click Walk-thru or on the links below to follow a path through the house. Click Virtual Tour to see both floors.
On occasion, we have thought about selling our house to buy something new or different. Then we decide that we just cannot give up our convenient location or that we would miss our neighborhood. But the truth is this: in this house are too many memories--the kind that make 416 Oakdale our home.
