Evolution

It is evident that this one room beneath the kitchen was once accessed from double doors built into the ground in the yard on the driveway side of the house. Though we can find no evidence of the doors, there is a large working freezer in the cellar that could never fit down the narrow stairway leading from the kitchen.

Result

Other than the contents we store in this room, we have made no changes to the cellar. Here you will find:

  • Furnace
  • Hot Water Heater
  • Wooden Storage Shelves
    • Cookie Tins
    • Paint Cans
    • Roaster
    • Christmas paper
  • Trey's weight bench
  • The still working FREEZER

Story

The freezer is a story in itself. We have no idea how old it is. It was left here by the previous owners, and it has continued to work for the 16 years we have lived in this house. We have often joked that it is large enough to hold two adult bodies! The truth is that at least four families in our neighborhood have used it to store food--all at the same time.

If and when it does break down, we have no idea how we will get it out of the cellar!
