...my niece and nephew...
My web-cam holds special meaning to me, more so than most technologies mean to people. The web cam serves as a means of communication between my family and me. I am extremely close to my brother and his wife. When their son, my nephew was born, I was there. I stayed with them for 6 straight days and nights once the baby came home and helped the new parents with a variety of things. To this day, I remain close to my nephew and look foward to seeing him most upon visits home.
During my sophomore year here at WVU, my brother informed me that he and his wife were expecting their second child. I was heartbroken at the realization that I would not be there for the first few moments of my new niece's life and even more heartbroken that I would have to wait until a visit home was possible before I could even meet her. Sensing my upset, my brother bought each of us a web-cam so that I could feel more connected to the family, and so I could watch my niece grow even though I could not physically be there with her. As soon as she said her first word or took her first step, my brother showed me through the web-cam. My niece and I can now talk and wave to eachother as if we were not nearly 300 miles apart.
More frequently than the web-cam, I use the computer. The computer is the center around which my collegiate career centers. Nearly all of the tasks assigned to mein my various classes by my various professors require the use of the computer.
