the dog
A few misplaced objects rest atop the carpet in the study. These items include a nylon chew-toy which the dog chooses to leave in various places throughout the apartment, and a pair of pink fuzzy slippers that I wore earlier but have since taken off (due in part to the extreme temperature fluctuations I have...I'll explain later).
I rescued my dog from the miserable life of stud servicing in February of last year. He is a tiny little guy, just 7 pounds full grown. He has become very protective of his family and seems to think that he is much bigger than he really is. He considers himself the world's greatest guard dog, but we consider him the world's cutest little ball of fluff.
Twix, as he was named by his former owner, is simultaneously the laziest and most energetic dog I have ever seen. While he spends the majority of his day asleep on my bed, not his own, when he's awake...we know it. He has the unusual habit of running fast paced laps through every room in the apartment at sporadic intervals throughout the day. My fiance and I often time him and encourage him to keep going just to see how long he will run.
Twix gets excited at the mention of walks, outside, ginger (my brother's female pomeranian whom Twix is quite fond of), and socks. He adores socks. The first thing he likes to do when Justin and I return home after being gone is attack our feet and pull off our socks. Click here to see him in action. He provides a good amount of comic releif and distraction after a long or hard day. In my opinion, everyone could benefit from having a dog like Twix.
However, I also suppose that if everyone did have a dog like Twix, our days would be far less productive. Twix is by far the greatest distraction I have from work and rest. He is a big fan of the computer desk, and anytime I sit in it to complete school work, he wants to join me. He jumps frantically up and down, wagging his front paws in a begging motion. It is the most adorable thing I have seen and therefore, I can never resist pulling him up on to my lap. This, however, prevents me from completing whatever work I intended to.
In addition to the distraction he poses to my schoolwork, Twix also seems to enjoy robbing me of quality sleep. He managed to figure out how to propel his tiny little body up onto my high bed. He chooses random, midnight instances (while I'm asleep)to jump up on the bed and investigate its surface. Apparently, he finds it necessary to sniff my face uncontrollably in the middle of the night, perhaps to be sure I'm still breathing?? Obviously, his furry little nose brushing against my cheek tends to wake me. While he provides several obstacles to working and sleeping efficiently, I love Twix and think he's a great little guy.
