stereo
Perhaps the largest amount of wasted space in the study is attributed to the stereo and its speakers that sit upon the desk. While I enjoy listening to music, I rarely use this stereo. Placing the stereo in the study, the room I use mainly for work purposes, shows bad judgement on my part. I do not use the stereo while I’m working due to the distraction it poses. Since my only use of the study is for work purposes, the stereo is rarely turned on.
While my stereo rarely gets used as it sits in my apartment now, it did receive a lot of use my freshman year here at WVU. I bought the stereo the summer before I moved to college so that I could put it in my dorm. During that first year in my dorm, the stereo received more use than it has in all three subsequent years combined. My stereo served as a tool for drowning out or covering up the noises coming from the other dorm room and the hallways while I was working.
It's odd that while living in the dorms, I worked best with the stereo playing. Now, I am unable to get any work done if the stereo is on. Somehow between freshman year and now, I lost my ability to work and play at the same time. Perhaps I just developed a better, more efficient work ethic.
On the flip side, one of the most frequently used items on my desk (other than the computer itself) is my web-cam.
