smoke detector

The smoke detector in the study, one of three in the apartment, is by far the most problematic. It seems to have a mind of its own. On several occasions, a few in the middle of the night, this alarm has randomly begun to beep. The first time it happened, I ran frantically from room to room in search of smoke or flames. Luckily, there were none. Changing the batteries did not stop the random alarm, nor did taking them out altogether. As a last ditch effort, our maintenance crew installed a new smoke detector in the room. Oddly enough, the same problem occurs with the new one...luckily not as often.

The only other item we adjust on the walls is the window blind. The two windows in my study are locked shut and adorned with white blinds and green and tan checkered valences. These blinds are rarely drawn, except during certain moments when I lift them to see if the expected snow has begun to fall, or to see who is making noise outside the apartment.
