apartment
I actually fell into the apartment we are now renting (for a virtual tour, click here ) for the third year in a row as the result of a series of unfortunate events. At the end of my sophomore year here at WVU , my parents began looking for a small house or townhouse for me to live in and to rent to other friends of mine. With the help of a not-so-experienced realtor, we came up with three possible choices.
After striking out on our first choice (our offer was flat out rejected), my parents placed an offer on a second residence that we liked. The offer was accepted, however, as the contract was being drawn up, a "better" offer was received and we were consequently snubbed.
Our third and final choice seemed to be the most promising since our offer was not only accepted, but the contract had been signed by both parties. One week before settlement, and coincidentally less than 3 weeks before my sophomore year began, the seller backed out and decided not to sell. Silly us, my family and I thought that a contract was a legally binding agreement and that simply backing out was not an option. We were obviously wrong, as there I was, about to enter my second year of college 5 hours from home with no place to live.
We frantically searched every rental listing available and found 12 different apartment complexes with supposed vacancies for the next year. However, 11 of the 12 that we visited had already (not surprisingly) been leased. In a stroke of amazing luck, we were able to lease an apartment through our very last option. This cozy little last minute apartment is now my home away from home.
This just goes to show how difficult it can be to find a home in Morgantown. If you're planning on living in this cozy LITTLE town, you'd better plan ahead and start your hunting in advance. While Morgantown is a great place to live and go to school, planning ahead and having a backup plan are essential to the small city life.
Planning ahead is even more essential in a college town, living the college life which is FULL of all sorts of distractions. However, despite the distractions and the runaround we tend to get here, I sure am gonna miss all this come May when I have to say goodbye and move on with my life. Click here to take a trip down memory lane with me and get all mushy over the things I'll miss so much when I go...
